why not?

That's what the guy said in our video at church on Sunday-- and he's right, why not fill a shoebox? Why not let our kids (who have everything they could ever want!) give up a gift in order to give another child a gift they will never forget? Why not fill a shoebox that will go to a child who maybe has never heard the Good News of Jesus? These shoe boxes are let into countries that may not be welcoming to missionaries, but are open to a Christmas gift for their children. Each box contains the story of Jesus in that child's language. It's so simple & easy, but could have a tremendous effect!!! So why not??? Check out the site, find a collection location near you & start packing!!!!

my first time . . .

No, not that- you dirty minded people! I mean come on I have three kids :)
It was my first time couponing!!! My friends Kelly & Angi or the "coupon Queens" as I like to call them are teaching me all their skills.

This is what I got my first time. My bill was $71 and I paid $32 !!!! It was love at first receipt! I'm hooked. I went again tonight (while Harris Teeter is still tripling coupons) and got $70 for $37!! The greatest part of it all, is that I feel like I'm helping my family so much!! So here's to couponing!!! Check back soon, I've got several things on my mind & I finished my Ragmuffin Garland and I LOVE it!! Pictures to come . . . See you soon . . .

halloween, leaves & more . . .

You know we love leaves around the Tharpe house! Hours of free entertainment!!!

With all these beautiful fall pictures, I should be ashamed to admit that I have already started on my Christmas decorations. I just can't help it -- I LOVE Christmas decorations! Plus I agree w/ the Nester in that taking all that time to put stuff up is a pain & just doesn't last long enough. So I've started a little at a time. I'm also working on one of these from the Nester. Check back soon- I'll update on the progress. Until then, Happy Fall or should I say Merry Christmas??!! :)

worth a thousand words . . .

a picture montage of the things i love . . .

Greatest drink ever. You must try it!
That all my kids can totally rock the ball cap.
When Brock gets a hold of the camera & lets Ella entertain us all. :)
Bonfires in the backyard.
PUMPKINS!!!

Spiderweb cupcakes (and yes, I know he's flipping the camera off)
When my little ones enjoy a cartoon together, in peace & it's quite for a few minutes.
Cheering on the Yankees.
Ella wrote this a few days ago. Somehow Deacon got the nickname "Hubbs" around here ( I have no idea where it came from!) Anyway, she asked me how to write Hubbs Norris. Isn't she a great writer?? :) And this one below, well, it caused quite a laugh around here. The girls & I do a reading/writing lesson everyday. Today's lesson was on "A" and "S". After each lesson they practice writing the letter they learned to read that day, and this was the first thing Els wrote! I was trying SO hard not to let her see me laughing!!! She is so innocent! It got put away to show her one day when she's older :)

last comic standing

Deacon has become quite the little comedian. He will do anything for a laugh - but not in an annoying way, in a 'that kid is hilarious' way. His new found favorite is making us laugh while eating his dinner by "hiding" behind his plate & rolling his eyes. The video really doesn't capture it well (mainly b/c he's already half way over it by the time I get the camera) but here's a little glimpse. Enjoy! (OH, and you'll have to pause the music player below)

our Ebenezer

My kids love rocks. They collect them. You can always find rocks lying around our house & if you have rocks at your house and the Tharpe kids visit, you will be missing some by the time we leave. I think we have rocks from every driveway we’ve ever parked in - little did I know how one of those rocks would play an important role in our story. A few months back, S & E were having a hard time sleeping at night. They were waking up several times at night complaining about “scary dreams.”
One night before bed, I was all but pleading with them to not get out of their bed & to sleep all night so Mommy & Daddy could rest. I noticed a pretty good size rock sitting on their bookshelf (I'm not sure whose driveway its from :), and I pointed it out to them. I told them about how in the bible, Samuel takes a rock & names it Ebenezer and that means “God is our helper.” I told them that if they were to wake at night, just to look at that rock & remember that God is their helper & he is watching over them. So, for months now, that rock has stayed in that same place & every time I see it, it reminds me of the same truth I was trying to teach my daughters.
Fast forward several months to this past week. The rental property that we have lived in the past several years is being sold. We have to move soon. We are not financially nor spiritually ready to buy a house. We don’t feel that’s something the Lord has told us to do yet & so we’re not. But, we need to find a new home quickly. I was burdened by this for just a few minutes & then it was as if this indescribable peace came upon our home. We’ve been praying for a new place to live for a long time now. And finally, God has shut this door and we are looking for another one. During church this past Sunday, we sang the song Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing—a song I’ve sang many times, but has never spoken to me the way it did Sunday. . . . . Here I raise mine Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I’m come and I hope by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
I was done. I knew that God had specifically spoke to my heart in that very moment. I knew that by his good help, we would be just fine --- this is my Ebenezer, my help.
That rock now sits on my kitchen window seal for us all to see. It is our Ebenezer. And it will move with us to our new place, when we arrive safely at home.

Please pray with us. Pray that God will give us a place to live that we can afford. A place with enough room for our family & friends who we would love to come visit us. A place that is safe.
